Of This Estate - Easton, MA - 2016
We often spend our days less than a foot away from the natural world, but remain aloof to its presence—its benefits and beauty always relegated to our periphery. In this work I bring these passively ignored elements of nature back into our field of vision by rendering them in the vacant house. The drawing is a surface texture map of a freshly cut tree from estate. The textures of the natural world take over the room, making them impossible to dismiss. What is old, declining, and set for demolition is revived by the natural element brought in from the outside world. And yet, even in doing so, I will rely on man-made systematic techniques, demonstrating how reclaiming these natural elements within a man-made space is ultimately impossible.
